During the evening of Friday, 17th July 2009, a Sports Dinner was held by the Club in the marquee on the Sports Field in Hopeman. Over 210 persons attended this very successful evening where they enjoyed a four-course meal and listened to good after-dinner speakers. The evening was hosted by our own Albert MacKenzie, PGA professional at Saunton Golf Course in Devon.
Prior to the meal, as an ice-breaker, Albert ran a Heads & Tails funny game with the winner, John Dawson, winning a prize of £100. During the meal, a video was shown of the Club and surrounding area, having been shot by Council Member Chris Adams who flew over the course in a microlight aircraft.
Our Club President, Sandy More presented a certificate of Honorary Life Member to Albert in recognition of his success in his golfing career and still representing Hopeman.
Gordon Murray, Vice President of the SGU, presented Club President Sandy More with a magnificent jug to commemorate our centenary.
Albert MacKenzie gave a rendition of his poem "Jeest But A Few", a light-hearted view of the Club and its members, past and present. During this poem, available photos were shown of the members mentioned.
A video message from Paul Lawrie was played to all present, congratulating us on our Centenary.
After-dinner speakers were Harry Bannerman, ex-Ryder Cup player and comedian Jimmy Quinn. A Grand Raffle saw 6 good prizes distributed. The Heads & Tails game plus the Raffle realised the sum of £1700. The Auction raised the sum of £3680 with £320 going to the Paul Lawrie Foundation and the remainder to the Club. One item, a Taylor Made Tour Bag, signed by Sergio Garcia and donated by Albert MacKenzie, went to Malcolm Reid for a marvellous bid of £1500. A full list can be seen below, along with some photographs of the eveining
Also during the evening small presents were given to two of our members who were celebrating birthdays - David Taylor and Dusty Millar. Their combined ages greatly exceeded the life of the Golf Club!
